COVID-19 Guidelines |
The 2021-2022 season will continue to bring challenges as we curl during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Brooklyn Lakeside Curling Club is committed to conducting a safe season and has developed an extensive set of guidelines for both gameplay on the ice, as well as setup, breakdown and broomstacking off the ice.
*** All curlers participating in the 2021-2022 season are REQUIRED to familiarize themselves with the BLCC Covid-19 Policy listed below and the Player Guidelines PDF linked below and to follow these guidelines while at the rink. NOTE in particular that all BLCC curlers MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED. Failure to adhere to these guidelines jeopardizes our fellow curlers' safety and our ability to continue curling at the Lakeside facility. These guidelines may change over time and any modifications will be updated here and also communicated directly to the BLCC community via email. ***

BLCC Covid-19 Policy - 2021/2022
Vaccination Policy
Brooklyn Lakeside Curling Club is a privately-run, nonprofit curling club and is adopting a COVID policy for the 2021/2022 season that requires proof of full vaccination* for all members, participants, and Try Curling students.
*Fully vaccinated is defined by the CDC as:
- 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
- 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine
Before starting the league or attending a Try Curling event, each player must complete a Declaration of Compliance for BLCC affirming that they are fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination (CDC Covid-19 Vaccination Card Record or the Excelsior Pass) at the time the Declaration of Compliance is executed, which will be countersigned by a designated member of the BLCC Board.
By completing the registration for the leagues or Try Curling events, each participant acknowledges BLCC full vaccination policy and agrees to show proof of same before being permited to curling. No refunds will be offered for persons who register but do not comply with this rule.
General Covid Information
BLCC, at the board’s discretion, may stop the season at any time: due to outbreak (in-club, in-Lakeside, local or state); if new guidelines from the venue or any level of government:
- Prevent us from curling; or if
- Such new rules require us to curl with fewer than 24 persons per session.
- Eliminate or significantly reduce the required additional time needed for setup as needed to observe the safe practices and procedures outlined in this document.
BLCC League Coordinators (Wednesday Coordinator and Sunday Coordinators and any other nights’ coordinators) will be responsible for compliance, but members are encouraged to self-govern in person and report concerns to club officials.
Mask Policy
- Masks are optional on the ice and must be worn at all times within the warm room.
- Observe social distance on and off the ice.
- Hand sanitizer is available as needed.
On the Ice Policy
Masks are required on the ice - during setup/takedown and gameplay.
We will not have any restrictions on the number of sheets being used but will use the alternate side setups (sheets 1,3 & 5 starting at the near end and sheets 2 & 4 starting at the far end).
We have regular curling with 4 person teams but with one sweeper for delivering team.
We will have modified sweeping in the house. Only the delivering team's sweeper and non-delivering team's skip can sweep beyond the t-line. - no other sweepers in the house.
We encourage all players to consider methods other than a handshake to wish your opponent and teammates “Good curling”.
After a game, while some are cleaning the ice, others should wipe down all the rock handles with disinfecting spray or wipes. Feel free to wipe them down prior to a game as well.
Shared club brooms and stabilizers will be available. Please clean with disinfecting spray or wipes after each game.
Use of Facilities
Use of the warm room(s) will be limited to 12 people at a time. Please try to arrive at Lakeside dressed to Curl.
Social distancing of six feet is recommended at all times, on and off the ice
Signs of Illness
If you are feeling unwell and/or have any symptoms of COVID, please refrain from coming to the curling club. Even if you believe it is not COVID, please get a substitute player and notify your team.
